About Us Growing up in Taos and riding bikes all my life I dreamed of having a bicycle shop in the area. After riding across Europe and experiencing the warm welcome bicyclists received there, I was determined to offer that to people in Taos. Sherry and I met and circumstances allowed my dream to come true. I wanted a small "ma and pa" shop. Sherry wanted a complete bicycle shop that could really serve the community and grow the sport. With her organization and business skills and my building and mechanical skills and our joint love of bicycling, we found a beautiful 100-year old building in the heart of Taos and in 1991 we opened GEARING UP, TAOS' COMPLETE BICYCLE SHOP. We pride ourselves on our professionally run, SERVICE oriented shop. Gearing Up is a year - round shop specializing in bicycling. We have experienced, caring mechanics who provide full service and repair. We also provide boxing, shipping, and receiving bicycles for customers. We stock most parts and offer a "special order" service to get most anything related to bicycling within two to five days. We carry only HIGH QUALITY (leading brand) BICYCLES, and a wonderful assortment of clothing, shoes, car racks, sunglasses and accessories, all competitively priced. Almost every day we receive comments from customers about our great selection of bicyling accessories and clothing. Gearing Up provides brand new rental and demo bikes, and our helpful staff is happy to provide information on trails and road rides. Gearing Up also offers GROUP RIDES of various types and levels. We love to help locals and visitors enjoy and share our good fortune of living and bicycling in Taos.
